In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee of China, held talks with Eduardo Salhuana, President of the Congress of Peru, in Beijing on Monday.
During the meeting, Zhao expressed China’s willingness to work closely with Peru to implement the important outcomes of recent heads-of-state diplomacy. He emphasized the goal of pushing forward the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership, aiming to bring more tangible benefits to both countries and their peoples.
Highlighting the deep-rooted friendship and mutual respect between the two nations, Zhao noted that strengthening China-Peru cooperation aligns with the common expectations of their peoples. He suggested that the legislative bodies play a crucial role in promoting the steady and long-term development of bilateral relations.
Zhao proposed that the National People’s Congress of China and the Congress of Peru enhance exchanges between high-level officials, special committees, and bilateral friendship groups. By deepening mutual learning on governance experience and enhancing understanding and friendship, both sides can support each other in pursuing development paths suited to their respective national conditions.
Eduardo Salhuana, on his part, expressed appreciation for China’s commitment to deepening ties with Peru. He echoed the sentiment of mutual cooperation and looked forward to collaborative efforts that would serve the best interests of both nations.
