Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy will attend the inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.
Hao Mingjin, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, is set to represent China at the event, which will take place on January 7 in Accra, the capital of the West African country. The participation of a high-ranking official signifies China’s commitment to its relationship with Ghana.
Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, confirmed the plans, highlighting the importance of this diplomatic engagement.
Mahama was declared the winner of the presidential election by the Electoral Commission of Ghana on December 9, 2024. His upcoming inauguration marks an important event in Ghana’s political landscape.
China’s attendance at the inauguration is expected to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two nations, promoting cooperation in various fields.
