China Unveils Emblem for 2024-2025 Rotating Presidency of Shanghai Cooperation Organization

China has officially unveiled the emblem for its tenure as the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for 2024-2025. The emblem, revealed on Thursday, incorporates classical patterns of cloud, thunder, and dragon originating from bronze ware of the pre-Qin period (before 221 BC). These elements adorn the emblem’s outer circle, interlocked in the traditional Chinese Hui-style pattern, symbolizing an unending cycle of hope, according to the Chinese foreign ministry.

Following the Astana summit in July 2024, China assumed the rotating presidency of the SCO for 2024-2025 and is set to host the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in China. The SCO holds special significance for China as it is the first international organization with China as a founding member state and is named after a Chinese city.

The unveiling of the emblem marks a significant step in China’s preparations to lead the SCO, reflecting its commitment to fostering regional cooperation and promoting shared development among member states.
