China is rapidly advancing its work as the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), pledging to take practical steps to enhance cooperation among member states in various fields.
On Thursday, China unveiled the emblem for its tenure as the rotating presidency of the SCO for 2024-2025. The emblem, featuring unique Chinese characteristics, includes the slogan “Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the Move” encircled in three languages: Chinese, Russian, and English.
At a regular press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized the slogan’s focus on “action,” highlighting China’s commitment to further enhancing SCO cooperation in politics, security, economy, and people-to-people exchanges. She stated that China aims to be more proactive in improving the SCO mechanism, building an SCO community with a shared future, and creating new opportunities for win-win cooperation.
“As we enter the year 2025, China is advancing its work of presidency at a faster pace,” Mao said. “China will host a summit featuring friendship, solidarity, and fruitful outcomes, as well as more than 40 institutionalized meetings.”
According to Mao, China will also host major events including the SCO Political Parties Forum, forums on poverty reduction, people-to-people exchanges, and friendship cities, along with the SCO International Investment and Trade Expo.
Flagship events such as a film festival, television festival, art festival, a youth innovation and entrepreneurship competition, and a Chinese calligraphy competition will also be held to promote cultural exchanges among SCO member states.
Since assuming the rotating presidency, China has already held a series of events, including the Green Development Forum and the 42nd meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, showcasing its dedication to advancing the SCO agenda.
China’s active leadership in the SCO aims to deepen collaboration among member states and contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
