China Media Group (CMG) on Friday unveiled the top 10 news stories from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in 2024. At the forefront of this roundup is the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, a milestone marked with significant events and reflections on the region’s progress.
On December 20, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at a meeting commemorating this historic occasion and attended the inaugural ceremony of the sixth-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR). In his address, President Xi praised Macao’s “earthshaking transformation” over the past 25 years, highlighting the substantial enhancement of its international standing since its return to China.
“Macao has undergone earthshaking transformation, and its international standing has increased significantly over the past 25 years since its return to the motherland,” Xi said in the speech.
