Chinese Defense Ministry Warns U.S. Weapons Won’t Aid Taiwan’s DPP Authorities

The Chinese Defense Ministry has issued a stern warning to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan, stating that U.S. weaponry will not prevent their downfall and will only become easy targets in potential conflicts.

During a regular press conference on Thursday, Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang commented on reports of the arrival of the first batch of M1A2T battle tanks purchased by Taiwan from the United States. He emphasized that relying on U.S. support for independence is a futile endeavor.

“Several pieces of U.S. weaponry won’t be the magic straw that can save a drowning man; they are nothing but easy targets on the battlefield,” Zhang remarked, underscoring the mainland’s firm stance on national reunification.

Zhang urged the United States to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, calling on Washington to honor its commitment to not support “Taiwan independence.” He demanded that the U.S. immediately cease arms sales to Taiwan and halt actions that jeopardize peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

“The actions of seeking independence by soliciting U.S. support are doomed to failure. Resorting to force to resist reunification leads nowhere,” Zhang warned.

He further stated that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will enhance its combat readiness and capabilities. “The PLA will comprehensively improve its combat readiness, enhance its capability to fight and win, and firmly smash any ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist plot and foreign interference,” Zhang affirmed.

The situation adds tension to cross-strait relations, with implications for regional stability and U.S.-China relations. The procurement of advanced military equipment by Taiwan has been a contentious issue, drawing criticism from Beijing, which views such moves as provocative.

The international community continues to watch developments closely, as actions by both sides impact not only regional security but also global economic and political dynamics.
