Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang has cautioned that U.S. weaponry will not be a miraculous solution for the Taiwan authorities, labeling them as “nothing but easy targets on the battlefield.”
Zhang made these remarks at a regular press conference on Thursday, following reports that the first batch of M1A2T battle tanks purchased by Taiwan from the United States had arrived on the island.
He warned that attempts to seek “independence” by relying on U.S. support are doomed to fail, and that resisting reunification through force leads nowhere.
Zhang urged the United States to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, honor its commitment to not supporting “Taiwan independence,” and cease arms sales to Taiwan and actions that undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
He emphasized that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will enhance its combat readiness and capability to fight and win, firmly opposing any separatist activities advocating “Taiwan independence” and foreign interference.
