The Chinese mainland has reiterated its commitment to exploring the “One Country, Two Systems” solution for Taiwan, ensuring that the island’s realities are fully considered in the process. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday.
Chen emphasized that vigorous efforts will be dedicated to advancing peaceful reunification by uniting with compatriots in Taiwan. “We will actively explore the Taiwan solution,” he stated, highlighting the importance of considering the views and proposals from people across all walks of life on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
“The interests and sentiments of Taiwan compatriots will be taken into full consideration,” Chen added. He expressed confidence that the people of Taiwan will develop a better understanding of the “One Country, Two Systems” approach, believing it will play a significant role as compatriots on both sides work towards peaceful reunification.
Marking the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, Chen pointed out the great achievements of Macao under the “One Country, Two Systems” policy. He noted that Macao’s success demonstrates the distinctive institutional strengths and strong vitality of the policy, proving it to be feasible, effective, and well-received by the people.
Chen’s statements reaffirm the Chinese mainland’s dedication to pursuing peaceful reunification with Taiwan, building upon the successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy in regions like Macao.
