In a press conference held on Wednesday, the Chinese mainland reaffirmed its commitment to exploring the implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” framework in Taiwan, emphasizing a tailored approach that considers the island’s unique realities.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated that the Chinese mainland aims to unite with Taiwan compatriots to actively advance peaceful reunification. “We will fully consider the realities in Taiwan, the views and proposals from all walks of life on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, and the interests and sentiments of Taiwan compatriots,” Chen said.
He expressed confidence that the people of Taiwan will develop a better understanding of the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. “The solution to the Taiwan question will play its full role as compatriots on both sides work together toward peaceful reunification,” he added.
As this year marks the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, Chen highlighted the success of the “One Country, Two Systems” model in Macao. “The great achievements of Macao since its return have proven to the world that the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ cause has distinctive institutional strengths and strong vitality. It is feasible, effective, and well-received by the people,” he noted.
The Chinese mainland’s renewed commitment underscores its dedication to finding a peaceful and mutually beneficial resolution to the Taiwan question, striving for unity while respecting the unique circumstances of the island.
