Beijing, China — In a significant move to strengthen bilateral ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi presented a six-point proposal to advance China-Japan relations during talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya on Wednesday.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two neighboring countries. He called on Japan to work with China to:
- Calibrate strategic understanding
- Maintain mutual trust
- Strengthen communication and dialogue
- Pursue win-win cooperation
- Enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges
- Properly handle conflicts and differences
“It is hoped that Japan will follow the trends of the times, view China’s development objectively and with goodwill, and adopt a positive policy towards China,” Wang stated during the meeting.
Highlighting the broader impact of the China-Japan relationship, Wang Yi remarked, “When China-Japan relations are stable, Asia becomes more stable; when Asia is stable, it plays a more significant role on the global stage.”
He expressed optimism that Japan will collaborate with China to learn from history, eliminate interference, and build consensus. “Advancing the sound and stable development of bilateral relations in the right direction is in the fundamental interests of both countries and contributes to regional stability,” Wang added.
The meeting between the two foreign ministers underscores a mutual desire to enhance cooperation amidst regional and global challenges. By focusing on shared goals and mutual respect, China and Japan aim to pave the way for a more prosperous and stable Asia.
