China’s Top Legislator Zhao Leji Calls for Enhanced Role of People’s Congresses in Modernization

China’s top legislator, Zhao Leji, has called upon people’s congresses across the nation to fully embrace their role in advancing Chinese modernization. Speaking at a lawmakers’ symposium on Tuesday during a legislative session, Zhao emphasized the significant progress made by the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee in contributing to the country’s annual economic and social development goals.

Zhao, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, highlighted the importance of upholding and developing whole-process people’s democracy. He encouraged people’s congresses to base all their work on the will of the people, ensuring that legislative actions reflect the needs and aspirations of the populace.

Addressing the attendees, Zhao underscored the necessity for in-depth investigations and research conducted in a realistic and pragmatic manner. He urged for coordinated and orderly planning and execution of work to effectively support the modernization efforts.
