China’s National Legislature to Convene Annual Session on March 5, 2025

The 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) is set to open its third annual session in Beijing on March 5, 2025, following a decision made by the NPC Standing Committee on Wednesday. The decision was adopted at the conclusion of a session held from Saturday to Wednesday.

The upcoming session will focus on critical aspects of China’s development. The suggested agenda includes reviewing the government work report and examining the report on the implementation of the annual plan on national economic and social development for 2024. Additionally, lawmakers will review the draft plan for national economic and social development for 2025.

Financial matters will also be a key focus, with the session expected to examine reports on the implementation of the central and local budgets for 2024 and the drafts of the central and local budgets for 2025.

Lawmakers are anticipated to deliberate a draft amendment to the Law on Deputies to the National People’s Congress and to the Local People’s Congresses at Various Levels. Furthermore, they will review work reports from the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People’s Court, and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.

The annual session of the NPC is a significant event in China’s political calendar, bringing together lawmakers from across the country to discuss and shape the nation’s policies and laws for the upcoming year.
