Senior Chinese Officials Pledge Allegiance to Constitution in National Ceremony

A total of 45 senior officials from 35 departments and units under the State Council, China’s cabinet, pledged allegiance to the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China at a solemn ceremony on Monday.

Premier Li Qiang oversaw the ceremony and delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of constitutional authority. He urged the officials to uphold the Constitution at all times, take the lead in respecting, studying, observing, and applying the law, perform their duties in accordance with the law, and remain honest and self-disciplined.

“China’s economic and social development will continue to face numerous challenges and difficulties next year,” Li said. “We must shoulder our responsibilities and strive to open new horizons for reform and development.”

He highlighted the necessity of refining and implementing the decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, noting that each task should be closely monitored to deliver tangible results.

Emphasizing a people-centered development philosophy, Li called on the officials to learn more about the needs and requests of people and enterprises. He urged them to ensure that all reform tasks are carried out effectively, in line with the plans made at the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.
