China and ROK Foreign Ministers Pledge Stronger Strategic Partnership

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Republic of Korea (ROK) counterpart Cho Tae-yul held a phone conversation on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for strengthened coordination to maintain global industrial and supply chain stability.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the continued expansion of trade between China and the ROK despite rising trade protectionism and unilateralism. He noted that the intertwined interests of both nations provide a solid foundation and ample space for economic and trade cooperation.

“China welcomes ROK enterprises to continue entering the Chinese market and expanding their investment,” Wang said.

As friendly neighbors and important partners, Wang emphasized that China-ROK relations have recently shown momentum of improvement and development, aligning with the interests of both peoples. He called for the utilization of dialogue and cooperation mechanisms across various fields, strengthening exchanges at all levels, enhancing mutual understanding and trust, and promoting the healthy and stable development of the strategic cooperative partnership between the ROK and China.

Acknowledging recent changes in the ROK’s domestic situation, Wang stated that China adheres to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and believes that the ROK people have the wisdom and ability to handle domestic issues appropriately.

Cho Tae-yul expressed that the ROK values the current positive momentum in bilateral relations and maintains its stance on promoting sustainable development of the ROK-China strategic cooperative partnership. He conveyed the ROK’s willingness to strengthen strategic communication, closely engage in high-level contacts and exchanges in various fields, and implement measures to facilitate people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Satisfied with the continuous expansion of economic and trade cooperation, Cho looked forward to building more mutually beneficial outcomes to inject further momentum for the well-being of both peoples.

Both foreign ministers agreed that China-Japan-ROK cooperation is conducive to the respective development of the three countries and regional peace, stability, and prosperity. They committed to working together to strengthen trilateral cooperation.

The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation under multilateral frameworks such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Wang Yi emphasized China’s consistent advocacy for resolving the Peninsula issue through dialogue and consultation, and affirmed that China will continue to play a constructive role in achieving peace and stability on the Peninsula.
