Senior Chinese lawmakers convened on Sunday to deliberate pivotal reports during the ongoing session of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee. The session, which plays a crucial role in shaping China’s legislative agenda, saw the participation of Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.
At the plenary meeting, lawmakers listened to a report on enforcing the Law on State-Owned Assets of Enterprises. The report proposed establishing and improving the entrusted agency mechanism for state-owned enterprises and state capital, aiming to enhance the management and efficiency of state-owned assets.
In their commitment to environmental stewardship, the lawmakers reviewed a report on the enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Emphasizing the importance of the Yellow River, often called the “Mother River” of China, the report called for promoting law-based governance of the river and advancing the conservation and restoration of the ecosystem across its basin.
The session also featured an audit rectification report for 2023. As of the end of September, the rectification process had involved a substantial sum of 538 billion yuan (about $74.8 billion) in funds, with over 2,800 individuals held accountable. This highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in financial management.
Further deliberations included a report on the allocation and utilization of fiscal funds dedicated to disaster prevention, mitigation, and emergency management. The report proposed improving fiscal policies and systems, as well as optimizing fund-allocation models to better prepare for and respond to natural disasters.
Additionally, the meeting addressed reports on farmland protection, legislative recording and review, and the fight against misconduct and corruption among the populace. These discussions reflect the comprehensive approach of Chinese lawmakers in addressing key issues that impact the nation’s development and the welfare of its people.
