In a heartfelt gesture of cultural exchange, Sebastián Bandera, Second Secretary and Consul of the Embassy of Uruguay in China, introduced the iconic South American beverage yerba mate tea to the Chinese community. The event commemorated the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, marking a symbolic union of traditions between the two nations.

‘Yerba mate tea is more than just a drink in Uruguay; it’s a symbol of friendship and hospitality,’ Bandera shared enthusiastically. ‘I’m pleased to see it becoming increasingly popular in China, and I hope it continues to build bridges between our peoples.’

The consul extended his sincere wishes to the “UniTea: Macao Tea Melody” program, highlighting its role in fostering international connections through shared tea cultures. ‘Programs like UniTea celebrate our global diversity and bring people together over common interests,’ he added.

The introduction of yerba mate tea during this significant anniversary underscores the growing cultural ties between China and Uruguay. As Chinese residents embrace this traditional South American beverage, it opens doors to deeper mutual understanding and collaboration.

The celebration not only honored a historical milestone but also showcased how simple traditions like sharing tea can unite different cultures and strengthen international friendships.
