Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a grand gala on Thursday evening to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China. The event was held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, bringing together dignitaries and residents to commemorate this significant milestone.
President Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, is in Macao for the anniversary festivities, the inauguration of the sixth-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), and an inspection tour of the SAR.
Accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan, President Xi entered the venue alongside Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and his wife Cheng Soo Ching. They were greeted with a standing ovation from the audience, reflecting the pride and unity of the Macao community.
The gala featured a vibrant array of performances, including songs, dances, and a musical that highlighted Macao’s rich cultural heritage and progress over the past 25 years. In a heartfelt conclusion to the evening, President Xi joined the audience in singing “Ode to the Motherland,” expressing hopes for the country’s prosperity and an even brighter future for Macao.
