Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Macao University of Science and Technology on Thursday morning, emphasizing the vital role of education and innovation in Macao’s development.
President Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, was briefed on the progress of two state-level laboratories at the university. One laboratory focuses on the quality of traditional Chinese medicine, while the other specializes in lunar and planetary science.
During his visit, Xi engaged with teachers, students, and scientific researchers, expressing his appreciation for their contributions to advancing scientific knowledge and education in Macao. He praised the university’s efforts to align education with the economic and social development needs of the region.
He stated, “Education strengthens Macao, talent builds Macao,” highlighting the importance of nurturing local talent to support Macao’s growth.
Xi arrived in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Wednesday to attend the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, the inauguration of the sixth-term government of the Macao SAR, and to conduct an inspection tour of the region.
The President’s visit underscores the central government’s commitment to supporting Macao’s efforts in education and innovation, fostering a prosperous future for the SAR within the greater context of national development.
