Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday afternoon met with Ho Hau Wah and Chui Sai On, former chief executives of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR). The meeting highlighted Macao’s significant progress and the important roles both leaders have played in its development since its return to China 25 years ago.
Ho Hau Wah, who also serves as vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Chui Sai On were commended by President Xi for their remarkable contributions. During their tenures as chief executives, they led the SAR government and united people from all walks of life to safeguard national security and maintain prosperity and stability in Macao, laying a solid foundation for its long-term development.
“Significant changes have taken place in Macao since its return to the motherland 25 years ago, with its accomplishments widely recognized,” President Xi said. He expressed hope that Ho and Chui will continue to support the incoming chief executive and the new term of the Macao SAR government in administering the SAR according to law, contributing to the stable and sustained practice of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.
