About 80 experts from Chinese energy companies gathered at Shennongjia, central China’s Hubei Province, on Thursday to advocate for increased efforts in biodiversity conservation during the country’s energy transition process.

The seminar, organized by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and the local government, brought together representatives from over a dozen Chinese energy companies. These included major players such as the State Grid Corporation of China, China Southern Power Grid, China Huaneng Group, China Three Gorges Corporation, China Huadian Corporation, and China Green Development Investment Group. The experts shared success stories and discussed strategies for promoting biodiversity conservation.

Participants emphasized the importance of integrating biodiversity conservation into the energy sector, especially as China continues to transition towards cleaner energy sources. They highlighted the need for sustainable practices that protect ecological systems while meeting the nation’s growing energy demands.

Shennongjia, known for its rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems, provided an apt backdrop for the discussions. The region’s commitment to environmental preservation served as an inspiration for the energy companies to adopt more eco-friendly practices.

The seminar concluded with a collective call to action, urging all stakeholders in the energy industry to prioritize biodiversity conservation in their operations. By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, the Chinese energy sector aims to contribute positively to global environmental efforts.
