Chinese Ambassador Confirms Two Chinese Nationals Dead in Vanuatu Earthquake

A magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck Vanuatu’s capital city, Port Vila, on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 14 people and injuring hundreds more, according to the Red Cross. Among the victims were two Chinese nationals, as confirmed by Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang on Wednesday.

In an interview with China Media Group, Ambassador Li expressed his condolences for the loss of life and affirmed that assistance would be provided to those affected. “Two Chinese nationals have unfortunately lost their lives in this devastating earthquake,” he stated.

The powerful quake has caused significant distress in Vanuatu, with emergency services responding to the crisis. The Red Cross reported extensive injuries and emphasized the urgent need for medical and humanitarian aid.

Efforts are underway to assess the full extent of the damage and support the victims. Local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious due to potential aftershocks.
