Macao’s Elderly Care Model Enriches Lives in China’s Greater Bay Area

“An old person in a home is like a treasure of the family.” This timeless saying resonates deeply in Hengqin, where, since 2019, the wisdom and warmth of Macao’s elderly care approach have been transforming lives.

The General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macao took a pioneering step by establishing elderly care services in Hengqin, modeled after the successful practices in Macao. At the heart of this initiative is Lu Fengxuan, a native of Macao, who brought her extensive experience in “Macao-style” elderly care to the community.

Under Lu’s guidance, seniors in Hengqin have been enjoying a vibrant and joyful life in their golden years. The services not only provide essential care but also foster a strong sense of community among the elderly residents. By encouraging them to share their skills and contribute ideas for community development, the initiative empowers seniors to remain active and engaged members of society.

This collaboration positions Hengqin as a pioneer in implementing “Macao-style” elderly care services in China’s Greater Bay Area. The success of this model underscores the potential for cross-regional cooperation in enhancing social services and improving the quality of life for the elderly.

As the Greater Bay Area continues to develop, the integration of Macao’s elderly care experience serves as an inspiring example of how shared knowledge and collaboration can enrich communities and support the well-being of all residents.
