BEIJING — In a significant address at a foreign policy symposium on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged to position China as a global force for peace, unity, openness, justice, and inclusion.
Speaking at the Symposium on the International Situation and China’s Foreign Relations in 2024, Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted the nation’s commitment to building a community with a shared future for mankind. This vision, he noted, stands as the noble goal of China’s major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics.
Wang emphasized China’s active role in striving for world peace and its dedication to saving lives. Addressing the Ukraine crisis, he reaffirmed China’s consistent objective and impartial stance, underscoring the country’s active advocacy for peace and negotiations.
Turning to the conflict in Gaza, Wang expressed deep concern over the high number of civilian casualties. He stressed that the urgent priority is achieving a comprehensive ceasefire and cessation of hostilities. “The key focus is to ensure humanitarian aid,” he stated, adding that the fundamental solution lies in the realization of the two-state solution.
The foreign minister declared China’s unwavering position as a force for peace. He called on the incoming U.S. administration to make prudent decisions, collaborate with China towards common goals, eliminate interference, overcome obstacles, and strive for the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Looking ahead, Wang Yi affirmed that China will deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation and all-around practical collaboration with Russia. He also emphasized the intention to promote China-European Union relations, aiming for steady progress along a path of independence, mutual achievement, and global benefit.
