China Coast Guard Monitors Philippine Supply Mission at Ren’ai Jiao

The China Coast Guard (CCG) closely monitored a Philippine civilian vessel’s recent mission to deliver supplies to an illegally grounded military ship on Ren’ai Jiao in the South China Sea, according to a spokesperson’s briefing on Tuesday.

Liu Dejun, spokesperson for the CCG, stated that with China’s permission, the Philippines dispatched a civilian vessel on Thursday to provide supplies to its military ship that remains illegally grounded on Ren’ai Jiao. The CCG conducted inquiries and verified the activities of the Philippine vessel, maintaining surveillance throughout the process.

“We hope the Philippine side will honor its commitments, collaborate with China, and jointly manage the maritime situation,” Liu said, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in maintaining stability in the region.

Liu affirmed that the CCG will continue to carry out law enforcement activities to safeguard China’s rights in Nansha Qundao and the surrounding waters, including Ren’ai Jiao. “We remain steadfast in protecting our sovereignty and maritime interests,” he added.

Ren’ai Jiao, situated in the South China Sea, is a focal point in the maritime relations between China and the Philippines. The area, rich in resources and strategic significance, has been a subject of ongoing discussions concerning sovereignty and jurisdiction.

The monitoring of the Philippine supply mission reflects the ongoing efforts by both nations to navigate complex maritime issues. Continued dialogue and cooperation are seen as vital steps toward ensuring peace and stability in the region.
