China has maintained wind and solar power utilization rates above 95% this year, according to official data released on Sunday. This impressive figure underscores the nation’s commitment to both speed and quality in its renewable energy drive, solidifying its position as a global powerhouse in green energy.
By the end of 2024, China’s installed wind power capacity reached 510 million kilowatts, while its solar power capacity stood at an astounding 840 million kilowatts. In the first seven months of 2024 alone, wind and solar power generation totaled 1.05 trillion kilowatt-hours, accounting for approximately 20% of the country’s total electricity generation.
The rapid growth of China’s new energy industry has been remarkable in recent years, consistently maintaining a double-digit annual growth rate. Since 2013, the installed capacity of wind power has grown sixfold, while solar power capacity has surged more than 180 times. China’s annual new installations represent over 40% of the global total, significantly contributing to global green development.
At the national energy work conference held on Sunday, Chinese authorities pledged to enhance efforts in developing and utilizing wind and solar power. This initiative aims to promote the country’s green and low-carbon transformation, further cementing China’s role in global environmental leadership.
Furthermore, China plans to deepen international energy cooperation, especially in green energy sectors, and actively participate in global energy governance. These efforts signal China’s dedication to collaborative approaches in tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development worldwide.
