China’s Renewable Energy Surge: Wind and Solar Utilization Exceeds 95%

China’s renewable energy sector continues to demonstrate remarkable growth and efficiency, with official data revealing that wind and solar power utilization rates have remained above 95% this year. This achievement underscores China’s commitment to a green energy transition that emphasizes both speed and quality.

According to the National Energy Administration, by the end of 2024, the Chinese mainland’s installed wind power capacity reached 510 million kilowatts, while solar power capacity stood at an impressive 840 million kilowatts. In the first seven months of 2024 alone, wind and solar power generation totaled 1.05 trillion kilowatt hours, accounting for approximately 20% of the country’s total electricity generation.

The rapid expansion of China’s new energy industry has been evident in recent years, maintaining a double-digit annual growth rate. Since 2013, the installed capacity of wind power has grown sixfold, while solar power capacity has surged more than 180 times. China’s annual new installations now represent over 40% of the global total, significantly contributing to worldwide green development.

At the national energy work conference held on Sunday, authorities pledged to enhance efforts in developing and utilizing wind and solar power. This initiative aims to promote the country’s green and low-carbon transformation, aligning with global sustainability goals.

“China will deepen international energy cooperation, especially in green energy, and actively participate in global energy governance,” stated officials at the meeting. This commitment reflects China’s intent to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of renewable energy on the world stage.

The sustained high utilization rates of wind and solar power not only signify technological proficiency but also highlight China’s strategic approach to energy security and environmental stewardship. As the nation continues to invest in renewable infrastructure and innovation, it sets a precedent for others in the pursuit of a sustainable energy future.
