China Maintains High Utilization Rates of Wind and Solar Power in 2024

China’s commitment to renewable energy continues to make waves globally, as the nation maintains high utilization rates of wind and solar power. Official data released on Sunday reveals that both wind and solar power utilization rates remained above 95% this year, underscoring China’s efforts to ensure both speed and quality in its green drive.

By the end of 2024, China’s installed wind power capacity had reached 510 million kilowatts, while solar power capacity stood at an astounding 840 million kilowatts. In the first seven months of 2024, wind and solar power generation totaled 1.05 trillion kilowatt-hours, accounting for roughly 20% of the country’s total electricity generation. This remarkable growth signifies China’s pivotal role in global renewable energy development.

The new energy industry in China has experienced rapid expansion in recent years, maintaining a double-digit annual growth rate. Since 2013, the installed capacity for wind power has grown sixfold, and solar power capacity has surged more than 180 times. With annual new installations comprising over 40% of the global total, China significantly contributes to the world’s green development.

At the national energy work conference held on Sunday, Chinese authorities pledged to enhance efforts in developing and utilizing wind and solar power. This initiative aims to promote the country’s green and low-carbon transformation. Additionally, China plans to deepen international energy cooperation, especially in green energy, and actively participate in global energy governance, signaling its commitment to a sustainable future.
