Beijing, China — China has expressed strong opposition to the United States’ recent decision to impose additional tariffs on certain Chinese goods. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that it has lodged solemn representations against the U.S. action, pledging to take resolute measures to safeguard its rights and interests.
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) recently announced tariff increases under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The tariffs target imports from China of specific products, including tungsten products, wafers, and polysilicon.
The Ministry highlighted that the World Trade Organization (WTO) has already ruled these Section 301 tariffs to be in violation of WTO regulations. The Chinese government emphasized that the U.S. tariff measures will not address the trade deficit but will instead harm the interests of U.S. consumers. Furthermore, these actions are expected to severely disrupt the international economic order and threaten the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.
"The U.S. should immediately correct its wrongdoing and remove the additional tariffs imposed on China," the Ministry urged in a statement.
China’s firm stance signals escalating tensions in international trade relations, impacting businesses and investors globally. The Ministry’s declaration underscores the country’s commitment to defending its economic interests amid ongoing trade disputes.
