The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will determine the timing and nature of any military exercises based on its operational needs and the situation on the ground, Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, stated on Friday.
Responding to media inquiries about potential military drills following the recent transits through Hawaii and Guam by the leader of the Taiwan region, Lai Ching-te, Wu emphasized the PLA’s unwavering resolve to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He reaffirmed the PLA’s mission to protect the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation and defend the shared interests of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
“Any attempt to split the nation through soliciting external support or resorting to force will be punished and will never succeed,” Wu declared.
