Xi Jinping Confident in China’s Economic Growth, Pledges Continued Global Leadership

Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed unwavering confidence in China’s ability to meet its economic growth targets for the year, reaffirming the nation’s role as a pivotal engine for global economic development.

On Tuesday, President Xi met with leaders of major international economic organizations in Beijing. During the meeting, he emphasized that despite the turbulence and transformative changes the world is currently experiencing, China remains committed to upholding multilateralism and fostering international cooperation.

“China stands ready to work with major international economic organizations to promote an equitable and orderly multipolar world, advance economic globalization that benefits all, and build a just world of common development,” Xi stated.

The leaders of the New Development Bank, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, and the International Monetary Fund praised China’s remarkable economic achievements. They expressed optimism about China’s future development prospects and extended gratitude for China’s longstanding support of international economic organizations.

Acknowledging the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, these leaders conveyed their willingness to collaborate closely with China. Together, they aim to uphold multilateralism, champion free trade and economic globalization, contribute to the world’s shared prosperity, and forge a common future for humanity.

President Xi highlighted that while economies worldwide face their own challenges, cooperation is essential. “All countries should work together to build an open world economy,” he said. Xi called for innovation-driven development, seizing opportunities in the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and low-carbon technologies. He emphasized the importance of creating new sources of economic growth and supporting the cross-border flow of knowledge, technology, and human resources.

After more than four decades of sustained and rapid growth, China’s economy has entered a phase of high-quality development, contributing approximately 30 percent to global economic growth, Xi noted. He reiterated China’s commitment to further opening up to the world, aligning with high-standard international economic and trade rules, and fostering a market-oriented, law-based, and world-class business environment.

“China’s development is open and inclusive,” Xi affirmed. “We will continue to provide new opportunities and share development dividends with other countries.” He welcomed international economic organizations to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to promote modernization through peaceful development, mutually beneficial cooperation, and common prosperity.

Addressing relations with the United States, Xi expressed hope that both countries could work together to steer bilateral relations toward a steady, healthy, and sustainable direction. “Tariff wars, trade wars, and sci-tech wars go against the trend of history and the laws of economics, and there will be no winners,” he cautioned. Xi emphasized China’s willingness to maintain dialogue, expand cooperation, and manage differences with the U.S.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to multilateralism and cooperation, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts in addressing global economic challenges.
