Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for accelerated efforts to build a strong and modernized information support force, aiming to achieve a leapfrog development of the military’s network information system.
On Wednesday, President Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), inspected the information support force of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
The information support force is a newly established strategic branch, formed during the recent military restructuring. In April this year, Xi awarded the military flag to the force and delivered a significant speech, highlighting its importance.
During his visit, Xi congratulated the force on holding its first Party Congress and extended greetings to its members. After receiving a briefing on the force’s progress, he emphasized the rapid development of technology and military innovations. He underscored the critical role of the network information system in modern warfare and urged the force to focus on strengthening the system to support combat readiness.
President Xi stressed the need to improve information services, build public network platforms, and prioritize cybersecurity. He called for continued reforms, better coordination, and stronger legal frameworks to enhance the quality and efficiency of the network information system.
Recognizing that the force is in its early stages, Xi highlighted the necessity of strengthening its internal structure, upholding the Party’s leadership, and ensuring strict Party discipline. He encouraged the Party committee of the force to improve leadership capabilities and to build a professional and skilled workforce.
Concluding his remarks, Xi called on the Central Military Commission to strengthen coordination. He also urged related government departments to work collaboratively in building the information support force and enhancing the military’s network information system.
