Delegation from Chinese mainland universities concludes fruitful visit to Taiwan

A delegation of 40 students and teachers from seven Chinese mainland universities concluded their nine-day visit to Taiwan on Thursday. Led by Qiu Yong, secretary of the Communist Party of China Tsinghua University Committee, the group embarked on their journey on November 27 at the invitation of the Taiwan-based Ma Ying-jeou Culture and Education Foundation.

During their stay, the delegation visited universities, historical sites, scenic spots, as well as sports, science and technology, and cultural venues across the island of Taiwan. Engaging widely with local residents, they explored shared cultural heritage and fostered mutual understanding between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

At a farewell dinner on Wednesday, Qiu Yong reflected on the profound connections experienced during the visit. “Our students and teachers felt the deep rapport between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and were captivated by the unique charm of the island,” he remarked.

Qiu called for increased opportunities for young people from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan to learn from each other. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the spiritual bond through Chinese cultural traditions and enhancing cross-strait educational cooperation. “In the course of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, compatriots on neither side of the Strait can be absent,” Qiu said.

Hsiao Hsu-tsen, executive director of the Ma Ying-jeou Culture and Education Foundation, saw off the delegation at the airport on Thursday. He noted the heartfelt welcome the mainland students and teachers received from Taiwan residents wherever they went. “Youth exchanges are the foundation of cross-strait relations in the future,” Hsiao stated, expressing the foundation’s commitment to continuing and promoting such exchanges across the Strait.
