China Defends Measures in Huangyan Dao as Justified and Restrained

Beijing, October 15 — China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian has firmly defended China’s recent measures in Huangyan Dao, asserting they are “justified, lawful, professional, and restrained”.

In a press briefing, Lin Jian reiterated that Huangyan Dao has always been an integral part of China’s territory. The spokesperson’s remarks come in response to recent actions by the Philippines, which include sending Coast Guard and official vessels into the area, an act China views as an intrusion into its territorial waters.

“China has taken necessary steps to protect its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights in accordance with the law,” Lin stated. Emphasizing the legitimacy of China’s actions, Lin called on the Philippines to “stop its infringement activities and provocations at once”.

Lin Jian warned against any challenges to China’s firm resolve to defend its lawful rights and interests. “Attempts to infringe upon China’s sovereignty will not be tolerated,” Lin added, urging for peaceful and respectful conduct in the region.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, where territorial claims have been a source of friction between China and neighboring countries. Huangyan Dao, known internationally as Scarborough Shoal, has been a focal point of these disputes.

The Chinese government maintains that its actions are in line with international law and stresses the importance of safeguarding regional stability. Lin Jian’s statements underscore China’s commitment to protecting its territorial claims while calling for dialogue and mutual respect.
