Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Chilean counterpart Alberto van Klaveren Stork in Beijing on Wednesday, calling for the advancement of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the enduring friendship between China and Chile despite the vast geographical distance. He noted, “China-Chile relations have entered the best period,” highlighting the steady development of bilateral relations and the exemplary role Chile has played in fostering ties with China.
Looking ahead to significant milestones—the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of their free trade agreement next year—Wang expressed China’s readiness to work with Chile to implement the consensus reached by their heads of state. He called for strengthening high-level political mutual trust, pragmatic cooperation, and connectivity.
Wang proposed maintaining high-level exchanges and close communication at all levels, enhancing economic and trade cooperation, and expanding collaboration in emerging fields such as information technology and clean energy. He emphasized the importance of aligning development strategies to achieve mutual benefits.
As important Asia-Pacific countries, Wang suggested that China and Chile should strengthen international coordination and jointly uphold multilateralism and free trade.
Alberto van Klaveren Stork affirmed Chile’s firm adherence to the one-China principle, stating it is an important cornerstone of Chile’s foreign policy that will not change. He expressed Chile’s eagerness to strengthen high-level and people-to-people exchanges with China, deepen cooperation across various sectors, improve connectivity, and promote further progress in bilateral ties.
“Chile welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in the country,” van Klaveren Stork added, highlighting opportunities for enhanced economic collaboration.
