President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to enhancing traditional medicine for the benefit of people worldwide in a congratulatory letter sent on Tuesday. The letter was addressed to the 2024 World Conference on Traditional Medicine, which commenced in Beijing with the theme “Diversity, Inheritance, Innovation: Traditional Medicines for All.”
In his message, President Xi emphasized the need for global cooperation in healthcare. “Efforts are needed from all sides to strengthen medical and health cooperation, jointly address global health challenges, and promote the building of a global community of health for all,” he stated.
He highlighted China’s dedication to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), noting that the nation has always placed equal importance on modern medicine and TCM. “China has blazed a characteristic development path of traditional medicine,” Xi said, expressing China’s willingness to collaborate with the international community to foster mutual learning in traditional medicines and integrate them more deeply into the global health system.
The 2024 World Conference on Traditional Medicine is jointly organized by the World Health Organization and Chinese sponsors, including the National Health Commission. The event, running from December 3 to 4, serves as a platform to improve global access to traditional and complementary medicine and promote its integration into healthcare systems worldwide.
The conference gathers experts, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss ways to innovate and develop traditional medicine culture. It reflects a growing global interest in the potential of traditional medicines to address health challenges and enhance well-being.
