Xi Jinping Calls for High-Quality Belt and Road Cooperation Amid Global Challenges

BEIJING — In a bid to steer the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) towards a brighter future, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of high-quality cooperation despite global complexities. Speaking at the fourth symposium on Belt and Road construction in Beijing on Monday, Xi underscored that opportunities within the BRI outweigh the challenges, urging for strengthened strategic confidence and courageous action.

Over the past 11 years, the BRI has transformed into the world’s largest and most comprehensive international economic cooperation platform. According to Zheng Shanjie, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, the initiative has achieved remarkable milestones, significantly contributing to global governance reform and socio-economic development. Zheng highlighted the BRI’s growing global influence, appeal, and cohesion.

President Xi acknowledged the substantial achievements of the BRI but also pointed out the intricate international landscape. He called for a steadfast strategic focus to deepen and solidify the initiative’s progress. Xing Guangcheng, director of the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, echoed this sentiment, noting the need for unwavering commitment.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu described the BRI as a vital platform for building a global community with a shared future. He emphasized the BRI’s role as a driving force behind advancing Chinese modernization and as a cornerstone of China’s distinctive approach to major-country diplomacy.

Amid global uncertainties, China’s reaffirmation of its commitment to the BRI signals a continued push towards international cooperation and development. By focusing on high-quality collaboration, China aims to foster economic growth and strengthen ties across participating nations.
