The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday called on Paraguay to establish an accurate and comprehensive understanding of the one-China principle, emphasizing its critical role in international relations and bilateral cooperation.
At a regular press briefing, Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian responded to questions regarding recent remarks by the Paraguayan foreign minister on the Taiwan question. Lin highlighted that the one-China principle is a universal consensus recognized by the international community and serves as a fundamental norm governing international relations.
“The principle is a political foundation and an important prerequisite for China to develop bilateral relations with other countries,” Lin stated. “It concerns China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and there is no room for compromise or concessions on this matter.”
He urged Paraguay to align itself with the majority of countries that uphold the one-China principle, emphasizing the importance of standing on the side of international fairness and justice. “We hope Paraguay will make choices that truly serve the fundamental and long-term interests of its people,” Lin added.
The spokesperson’s remarks reflect China’s firm stance on the Taiwan question and its expectations for countries to respect and adhere to the one-China principle in their foreign policies.
