Xi Jinping Calls for Adapting Marxism to China’s Modern Needs

Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the need to adapt Marxism to China’s contemporary context and the demands of the modern era. In an instruction delivered at a conference in Beijing on Friday, Xi highlighted the importance of theoretical innovation to ensure Marxism remains relevant in guiding China’s development.

Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, underscored the significance of integrating the core principles of Marxism with China’s specific realities and rich traditional culture. He called for intensified efforts in theoretical research and public communication to deepen the public’s understanding of the Party’s innovative theories.

The conference marked the 20th anniversary of a project dedicated to studying and advancing Marxist theory in the new era. Over the past two decades, the initiative has played a crucial role in promoting the Party’s theoretical innovations and reinforcing Marxism’s guiding role in China’s ideological sphere.

Xi stressed the urgency of accelerating the development of an independent knowledge system for Chinese philosophy and social sciences. “Cultivating a pool of high-caliber theoretical talent is essential,” he stated, emphasizing that such efforts would contribute to the nation’s intellectual and cultural growth.

Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, attended the conference. Cai echoed Xi’s sentiments, calling for enhanced study of Marxism’s fundamental tenets and a deeper exploration of China’s unique experiences and traditional culture. “By invigorating theoretical innovation, we can address the challenges of our time,” Cai noted.

The discussions at the conference reflect the CPC’s commitment to ensuring that Marxist theory evolves alongside China’s rapid development. By adapting these foundational ideas to current circumstances, China aims to foster continued progress and maintain its cultural heritage while navigating the complexities of the modern world.
