On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a new chapter in the high-quality development of these cooperatives. In his remarks, President Xi emphasized the crucial role that supply and marketing cooperatives play in bridging the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the government with the farmers, fostering close ties and driving rural revitalization.
Established in 1954, the federation has been instrumental in organizing, coordinating, and managing the operation of essential agricultural inputs and the distribution of agricultural and sideline products. Over the past seven decades, these cooperatives have significantly contributed to serving both rural and urban residents, boosting the rural economy, eradicating absolute poverty, increasing farmers’ incomes, and promoting rural revitalization.
“Supply and marketing cooperatives are vital in connecting the Party and the government with the farmers,” President Xi stated. He urged Party committees and governments at all levels to strengthen their leadership and support for these cooperatives. President Xi called for the creation of integrated platforms that serve the production and living needs of farmers, promoting the development of modern agriculture.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang also highlighted the importance of supply and marketing cooperatives. He urged them to further promote the high-quality development of agricultural supplies, the distribution of agricultural products, and the recycling and utilization of renewable resources.
Vice Premier Liu Guozhong echoed these sentiments at a meeting held in Beijing to mark the federation’s anniversary. He called on cooperatives to aid in the integrated development of urban and rural areas and advance comprehensive rural revitalization.
The emphasis on supply and marketing cooperatives underscores China’s commitment to modernizing its agricultural sector and enhancing the livelihoods of its rural population.
