In a significant move to strengthen regional ties, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Senior Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong in Beijing on Tuesday. The meeting focused on aligning development strategies and enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
President Xi commended Singapore’s remarkable achievements during Lee’s tenure as prime minister and praised his longstanding support for China-Singapore cooperation. Last year, the two sides established an all-round, high-quality, future-oriented partnership, setting a strategic course for the development of bilateral relations.
“Next year will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore,” Xi noted. He called on both countries to strengthen high-level exchanges and deepen cooperation in various fields to deliver more benefits to their peoples and contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
Highlighting the 30th anniversary of the Suzhou Industrial Park, Xi said the park exemplifies successful cooperation between China and Singapore and stands as a testament to Singapore’s deep involvement in China’s reform and opening up.
“China will always focus on running its own affairs well and is confident in maintaining long-term economic growth and achieving high-quality development,” Xi stated, welcoming Singapore to continue being a pioneer in cooperation with China.
He emphasized the importance of utilizing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, operating major projects at a high level, and seizing opportunities in digital and green development. “Together, we can write a new chapter in China-Singapore cooperation in the new era,” he said.
President Xi also underscored the need for solidarity, cooperation, openness, and inclusiveness. He expressed China’s readiness to work with Singapore to practice true multilateralism, safeguard global fairness and justice, resist group antagonism, division, and confrontation, and build an Asian community with a shared future.
