China’s meteorological authorities have renewed blue alerts for cold waves and strong winds, signaling sharp drops in temperature and powerful gusts expected to hit various parts of the country in the coming days.
From Saturday to Thursday, temperatures across most regions of China are forecasted to plunge by 6 to 10 degrees Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).
Some areas in the northwestern, northern, and northeastern parts of the country may experience even more significant drops, with temperatures decreasing by 12 to 14 degrees Celsius, and in some places, up to 16 degrees Celsius.
The NMC has also renewed a blue alert for strong winds. From 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, powerful winds are expected to sweep through regions including the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xizang Autonomous Region, the provinces of Qinghai and Gansu, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the Taiwan Strait, the sea area off the east of Taiwan, and parts of the South China Sea.
In the meantime, the Beijing Meteorological Service has warned of a significant temperature drop starting Sunday evening, which is expected to bring rain and snow to the city.
The western and northern parts of Beijing could face conditions ranging from sleet to snowfall, while most urban areas and plains are likely to experience rainfall, according to the service.
The precipitation is expected to conclude by noon on Monday, followed by strong winds and freezing temperatures that will persist until Wednesday.
China employs a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions against the cold and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts.
