The remains of 43 Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPV) martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea are set to be returned to the Chinese mainland from the Republic of Korea (ROK) in late November, according to China’s Ministry of Veterans Affairs.
This repatriation marks the 11th such handover since China and the ROK signed an agreement to facilitate the return of fallen soldiers. Between 2014 and 2023, both countries have cooperated under international laws and humanitarian principles to successfully repatriate the remains of 938 CPV martyrs, along with related artifacts.
The ongoing collaboration reflects a mutual commitment to honoring those who lost their lives in the conflict. “Both sides have agreed to continue their cooperation in these efforts,” stated a spokesperson from the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.
Nearly 200,000 CPV soldiers were confirmed killed during the war, with most interred on the Korean Peninsula. The return of their remains is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made and serves to strengthen ties between China and the ROK.
