China Open to Dialogue and Cooperation with the U.S.: Vice Minister Wang Shouwen
China has expressed its readiness to engage in dialogue, expand areas of cooperation, and manage differences with the United States to promote stable and sustained development of bilateral economic and trade relations. China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen made these remarks on Friday during a press conference.
“Based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, China is willing to work with the U.S. to enhance our economic and trade ties,” Wang stated. He emphasized that while pursuing this path, China will firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests.
Wang highlighted the high complementarity of the Chinese and U.S. economies, underscoring the critical importance of their relationship. “Maintaining balanced, healthy, and sustainable economic and trade relations benefits not only our two peoples but also individuals worldwide,” he said. “This aligns with the expectations of the international community.”
Addressing China’s economic resilience, Wang noted the nation’s capacity to handle external shocks, attributing it to a vibrant economy with great potential. “China is building a ‘dual circulation’ development pattern, which takes the domestic market as the mainstay while allowing domestic and international markets to reinforce each other,” he explained.
On the topic of tariffs, Wang remarked, “History has shown that raising tariffs on Chinese goods cannot resolve the tariff-imposing country’s trade deficit. Instead, it leads to higher prices for imported products and inflation, ultimately burdening consumers.”
Wang’s comments come at a pivotal time for China-U.S. relations, as both nations navigate complex economic landscapes and global challenges. His statements signal a willingness from China to foster improved relations through constructive dialogue and collaboration.
