FedEx Expands Xiamen-U.S. Cargo Flights and Opens New Gateway Facility

FedEx has significantly bolstered its logistics network in China by increasing the frequency of its Xiamen-U.S. cargo flights and unveiling a new international gateway operation facility in Xiamen. The global express delivery company made the announcement on Thursday, marking a substantial enhancement in its services connecting China with North America.

The Xiamen-U.S. cargo route, which commenced operations in June 2024 with weekly flights, has now been expanded to five flights per week, operating from Tuesday to Saturday. Utilizing Boeing 777 freighters, the route departs from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, makes a strategic stop in Incheon, the Republic of Korea, and then connects to Anchorage, Alaska, before reaching FedEx’s hub in Memphis, Tennessee. This increased frequency is expected to reduce transit times for parcels and heavy cargo from Fujian province to North America by one to two days, providing faster and more efficient services for customers.

The newly launched international gateway operation facility in Xiamen spans over 3,800 square meters and boasts fully automated sorting lines designed to enhance operational efficiency. The facility primarily serves customers in Xiamen and the surrounding Fujian region, while also supporting exports from cities like Changsha and Shantou. By integrating customs clearance and sorting processes, the facility aims to streamline cross-border e-commerce operations and freight handling, catering to the growing demand for expedited international shipping services.

Robert Chu, Vice President of FedEx China, highlighted the strategic importance of China within the company’s global network. “The expansion of our flight services and the opening of the new facility in Xiamen strengthen our ability to connect second- and third-tier cities in China with global markets,” Chu stated. “This not only supports the growth of local export businesses but also reinforces our commitment to facilitating international trade.”

Xiamen continues to play a pivotal role in FedEx’s operations in China. The company’s strategic collaboration with the Xiamen government focuses on enhancing international air logistics and promoting cross-border e-commerce. The recent developments align with this collaboration, further positioning Xiamen as a critical hub for international cargo operations.

The enhanced cargo flights and new facility are expected to provide significant benefits to businesses in the region, particularly those involved in export activities. By improving connectivity and reducing transit times, FedEx is enabling local enterprises to reach global markets more efficiently, thereby fostering economic growth and development in the Fujian province and beyond.
