Even mountains and seas cannot distance people with common aspirations. During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Brazil, a recent survey has revealed that Brazilians hold a highly favorable view of China, seeing the relationship between the two nations as transcending mere bilateral ties.
The survey, conducted by CGTN in collaboration with the New Era International Communication Research Institute and the Brazilian Center for Studies in Economic and Social Law, polled 1,106 Brazilian respondents. The findings highlight that a significant majority believe that the close coordination and cooperation between China and Brazil on multilateral platforms injects new impetus into safeguarding the national interests of the Global South and contributes to building a fairer and more reasonable international order.
High Favorability Towards China
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. The two nations have been described as good friends sharing common visions and partners poised to move forward hand in hand. The survey findings underscore this sentiment, with Brazilian respondents expressing a high degree of favorability toward China.
According to the survey:
- 91.6% of respondents believe that China is a successful country.
- 84.5% view China as a country worthy of respect.
- 81.2% consider China to be an attractive country.
- 76.2% praise China as a responsible major country.
Positive Evaluation of China’s Development and Modernization
The respondents also positively evaluated China’s development achievements and modernization concepts. Key findings include:
- 97.6% believe China’s economic strength is strong.
- 96.9% acknowledge China’s rapid economic development.
- 89.8% believe China’s economy will maintain a long-term positive development trend.
Furthermore, a significant majority recognize China’s contributions to global economic recovery and scientific advancement:
- 95.6% positively evaluate China’s significant contribution to global economic recovery.
- 98.2% express confidence in China’s strong scientific and technological strength.
- 92.9% acknowledge China’s high level of scientific and technological innovation and strong capabilities.
- 93.9% believe China’s scientific and technological progress has made outstanding contributions to world development.
Beyond Bilateral Relations
The survey indicates that Brazilians see the relationship with China as extending beyond traditional bilateral cooperation. The close coordination on multilateral platforms is viewed as crucial for advancing the interests of the Global South and promoting a more equitable international order.
As China and Brazil celebrate five decades of diplomatic relations, the strong mutual respect and shared aspirations between the two countries signal a continuing partnership that has implications not just for them, but for the broader global community.
