At the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Bolivian President Luis Arce on Tuesday, expressing China’s commitment to aligning Belt and Road cooperation with Bolivia’s 2025 development plan and expanding partnerships across multiple sectors.
President Xi highlighted the positive momentum in China-Bolivia relations in recent years, noting that both nations have firmly supported each other on issues involving their core interests and major concerns. He emphasized that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has yielded fruitful results, bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.
“China supports Bolivia in independently exploring a development path that suits its national conditions,” Xi said. He added that the upcoming 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year presents an opportunity to promote historical friendship, deepen strategic mutual trust, and elevate the China-Bolivia strategic partnership to a new level.
President Xi called for strengthened exchanges between governments, legislative bodies, political parties, and local entities, aiming to deepen the exchange of governance and development experiences. He proposed expanding cooperation in infrastructure construction, high-altitude agriculture, green development, and the digital economy.
Moreover, Xi emphasized the importance of deepening collaboration within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and BRICS, promoting unity and self-reliance among countries in the Global South and advancing common development. He affirmed China’s support for the integration of Latin America and expressed willingness to work with Bolivia to strengthen the China-CELAC Forum mechanism.
The meeting underscores China’s continued efforts to build international partnerships through the BRI, fostering mutual growth and development with nations around the globe.
