Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the unique strategic significance and global influence of China-France relations, highlighting the maturity and responsibility both nations bring as independent major countries.
During his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Xi underscored the importance of deepening strategic communication and strengthening mutual support. He stressed the need to maintain the sound and positive development momentum of China-France relations, expressing hope that their bilateral ties could significantly contribute to the healthy development of China-EU relations and to world peace and stability.
“China is willing to continue to advance high-level exchanges with France,” Xi stated, emphasizing the desire to deepen cooperation in areas such as culture, education, and people-to-people bonds.
Addressing the Ukraine crisis, Xi reiterated China’s hope for an easing of the conflict. He expressed concern over potential spillover effects and escalation, stating that such outcomes are not what China wants to see. “China will continue to play a constructive role in its own way for the ceasefire and end of the conflict,” he affirmed.
