China’s Ministry of National Defense has called on the United States to immediately halt arms deliveries to the Taiwan region, accusing it of jeopardizing peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
At a press conference on Friday, ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang expressed strong opposition to the U.S. delivery of High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) units to Taiwan, along with plans to train local troops in their operation. He urged the U.S. to cease its “dangerous actions” that escalate tensions in the region.
Zhang criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan for “selling the interests of the people in Taiwan” by seeking external support for “Taiwan independence.” He warned, “Such behavior will only push Taiwan closer to the brink of war.”
The spokesperson reaffirmed that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will strengthen its combat readiness to firmly thwart any attempts at “Taiwan independence” and to counter interference by external forces.
