Xi Jinping Highlights Deepening China-Peru Ties in Lima Arrival Speech
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Lima on Thursday, marking the beginning of his state visit to Peru and participation in the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. In a written speech delivered upon his arrival, Xi hailed the longstanding friendship between the Chinese mainland and Peru, expressing optimism about advancing bilateral cooperation.
Tracing the historical roots of China-Peru relations, Xi emphasized that exchanges between the two nations date back over 400 years via the Maritime Silk Road and the Manila Galleons, known historically as the “China Ship.” He noted that Peru was among the first Latin American countries to establish diplomatic ties with China 53 years ago, setting a strong foundation for their partnership.
“Thanks to our joint efforts, the China-Peru relationship has continued to develop deeply,” Xi stated. “Political mutual trust between our two sides has been steadily strengthened, with mutual understanding and support on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns.”
Highlighting economic cooperation, Xi pointed out that China has been Peru’s largest trading partner and main export market for the past decade. Collaboration in key sectors such as mining and infrastructure construction has delivered tangible benefits to both nations, fostering growth and development.
During his visit, Xi is scheduled to hold talks with Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra. The discussions aim to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across various fields, including trade, investment, and regional development. Notably, the two leaders will jointly inaugurate the Chancay Port, a significant infrastructure project symbolizing the partnership between the two countries.
Xi expressed his belief that through joint efforts, the visit will elevate the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level. “We aim to promote practical cooperation in various fields to achieve new results,” he emphasized.
In addition to bilateral discussions, Xi conveyed his hopes for the success of the APEC meeting. He affirmed China’s dedication to fostering an open Asia-Pacific economy, promoting global economic growth, and contributing to the construction of an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.
As the APEC summit unfolds, global readers, business professionals, and academics alike will be watching closely to see how these developments impact the political and economic landscape of the region.
