Chinese Commerce Ministry Slams U.S. Suppression in Semiconductor Sector

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has strongly criticized the United States for its actions in the semiconductor industry, labeling them as a “typical non-market practice” that undermines global trade and cooperation.

At a press conference on Thursday, Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yongqian responded to reports that the U.S. has ordered Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (TSMC) to limit shipments of certain advanced chips to the Chinese mainland.

“For some time, the United States has been abusing export control measures, implementing long-arm jurisdiction, and continuously intensifying the suppression and containment of China in the semiconductor sector, which is cutting off the global semiconductor market,” He Yongqian stated.

“This is a serious breach of international economic and trade rules and a gross interference in free trade,” the spokesperson added, emphasizing the detrimental impact such actions have on all parties involved.

He Yongqian highlighted that semiconductors represent a key area of global industrial division of labor and cooperation. “What the U.S. is doing will seriously damage the interests of all parties and hinder global scientific and technological exchanges and economic and trade cooperation,” the spokesperson warned.

The Ministry’s remarks come amid escalating tensions in the global semiconductor industry, where supply chains are deeply integrated across nations and regions. The restrictions imposed by the U.S. are expected to have far-reaching consequences for international collaboration and market stability.

China urged the United States to halt its suppression of the semiconductor sector and to work towards maintaining a fair and open global market that benefits all stakeholders.
